Medvedev: US will face global consequences after Pelosi’s visit
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan sparked global outrage, including from Russia, accusing it of fueling "regional tensions."
Deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan will have major worldwide repercussions for the US, including a deteriorating security situation in Asia.
Following the visit, the situation rapidly deteriorated, and China started conducting extensive military drills that include live firing.
"This is probably what the Americans, who are fueling regional tensions, wanted, but in vain. After all, they will have much more serious consequences on a global scale. Security in Asia will deteriorate dramatically. The distrust will be enormous. Markets will continue to fall. Prices of gasoline and groceries will rise," Medvedev said.
Earlier this week, Russia highlighted how the United States was bringing instability to the entire international arena by siding with its ally in East Asia and accusing Washington of doing so over House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's trip to Taiwan, which has caused concern in both China and the United States.
As tensions mount between Beijing and Washington over Pelosi's visit, several Chinese warplanes flew on sorties over the Taiwan Strait earlier that day.
Chinese Navy warships have been deployed and Air Force aircraft carried out sorties near the median line of the Taiwan Strait as yet another warning to Washington over Pelosi's anticipated visit.
"Washington is bringing destabilization to the world. Not a single resolved conflict in recent decades, but many provoked ones," Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on social media.
