The Commander of Iran's Navy, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani, announced that two new Fateh (Conqueror)-class submarines would join the military "in the near future."

Irani made the remark on Tuesday while highlighting the Iranian Army's recent successes and plans to improve its naval forces, stating that the Fateh-2 and Fateh-3 submarines will be added to the country's naval fleet in the near future.

The commander added that Iran also plans to add additional equipment to the southern and northern fleets.

“Regarding the addition, we will have plans in the field of surface units as well as in the field of sub-surface units. Also, we will speed up the joining of Fateh-2 and -3 to strengthen our authority in the sub-surface area.”

Concerning the new Fateh submarines' characteristics and capabilities, he stated, “Today, they are equipped with dual-purpose and domestically-made torpedoes, and all their test launches have been successful.”

Irani also stated that the Iranian Navy will soon deliver extremely good news to Iranians regarding a "unique achievement" by the Islamic Republic of Iran's Navy, which would be publicized to the media.

The 600-ton Fateh is a semi-heavy submarine fitted with cutting-edge armaments like torpedoes and naval mines. Fateh also has a guided-missile system and a sophisticated sonic radar system that can detect hostile boats. It can operate for about five weeks at depths of more than 200 meters below the sea surface.

Iran has launched many classes of domestically produced sophisticated submarines, including the Ghadir, Qaem, Nahang, Tareq, and Sina.

Iran's Navy has also boosted its presence in international seas in recent years to safeguard naval channels and provide protection for commercial ships and tankers. During its deployments in international seas, the Navy has foiled multiple assaults on both Iranian and foreign tankers.
