New Zealand adopts new anti-Russian, Belarus sanctions
New Zealand announces new sanctions against 22 Russian and Belarus citizens including family members of both country's leaders.
New Zealand adopted new sanctions against 22 Russian and Belarusian citizens, including family members of Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov and daughters of Russia's President Vladimir Putin, in addition to 4 Russian entities.
The country's Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta announced on Monday that the sanctions targeted 22 "members of the elite".
"Further sanctions now target 22 members of the elite who lend support to the illegal invasion of Ukraine and who have been rewarded for their loyalty with wealth and influence".
"Russia relies on the ongoing support of those in positions of power and influence as it continues its illegal and unjustified invasion of Ukraine," Mahuta added.
The statement announced that New Zealand sanctioned Putin's daughters, Peskov's wife, and children, in addition to the wife and son of President of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Russia's Central Bank chief Elvira Nabiullina.
Sanctions also included 4 Russian entities in the field of energy, transport, steel, and electronics.
"The sanctions involve travel bans; prohibitions on dealing with assets or services, shares or securities; and prohibitions on vessels like superyachts or aircraft entering this country. We continue to remind New Zealanders there is a ‘do not travel’ advisory in place for Russia and Ukraine," the minister stated.
