One killed in Shiraz terror attack in Iran
The terror attack occurred at the Shah Cheragh shrine in southeast Shiraz, and marks the second attack on the shrine in less than a year.
One person was killed and eight people were injured in an armed terrorist attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz, south of Iran.
According to state media, two terrorists were engaged in the shooting on Sunday.
One of the attackers was apprehended, and the other is thought to be on the run.
Three of those injured in the incident were critically injured.
Iranian state media reported that the terrorists tried to enter the shrine through the Bab Al-Mahdi Gate and opened fire on shrine employees.
According to Nour News, the two terrorists were "foreign nationals," and one of them began shooting with a Kalashnikov rifle before he was immediately detained, while the other perpetrator managed to escape the shrine.
State media reported that the takfiri terrorist group ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, the second since October last year.
In October 2022, three gunmen, who were reported to have been extremist terrorists of non-Iranian nationality, entered the city of Shiraz by car and opened fire on the visitors and staff in the religious shrine. Similar to today's attack, ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack a mere hours after it happened.
In March, an Iranian court sentenced two persons to death over their involvement in the deadly terrorist attack last October.
