Thousands of Canadians took to the streets in Ottawa, staging large-scale protests in support of Gaza on Sunday as the Strip continues to face the Israeli war waged on it.

Over 30,000 Canadians participated in the protests, demanding an end to the Israeli war on Gaza and a two-way arms embargo on "Israel", carrying Palestinian flags and demonstrating in front of the Canadian parliament in the capital city, Ottawa.

Emerging footage shows the scale of the protests, with thousands of pro-Palestine demonstrators carrying signs calling for an end to the genocide perpetrated by "Israel" and condemning its cruel actions against Palestinian civilians.

One of the key demands of the protests is a two-ways arms embargo on "Israel" that would see the prohibition of conventional arms, munitions, parts and components trade with the occupation.

Canada PM folds on Gaza remarks after Netanyahu backlash

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, condemning as "irresponsible" his suggestion that "Israel" is carrying out genocide in Gaza, during a rally on April 8.

Netanyahu's rebuke emerged following an incident at a Tuesday rally where Carney, while speaking, was interrupted by a pro-Palestine protester who loudly declared, “There’s a genocide happening in Gaza,” prompting Carney to reply, “I’m aware, that’s why we have an arms embargo.”

"Israel" is facing a genocide case brought by South Africa before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in which the occupation entity is accused of breaching the 1948 United Nations Genocide Convention in its ongoing war on the Palestinian Gaza Strip.

On Thursday night, Netanyahu shared a video of the exchange on his official X account, stating, "Canada has always sided with civilization. So should Mr. Carney." He went on to say, "But instead of supporting Israel, a democracy that is fighting a just war with just means against the barbarians of Hamas, he attacks the one and only Jewish state."

During an April 9 press conference, when questioned about the incident, Carney insisted he hadn't caught the word "genocide", stating: "You were there, I guess — It was noisy, you get… if you're up there, you hear snippets of what people say."
