The Forum of Palestinian Journalists announced on Friday the death of Alaa Hashim, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City during its ongoing war.
Her passing raises the number of Palestinian journalists killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023, to 206.
The NGO mourned Hashim and denounced the international community’s silence and failure to protect Palestinian journalists. It also called for ensuring journalists can carry out their work in line with international laws and humanitarian conventions.
A ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement took effect in Gaza in January, pausing the devastating Israeli genocide, which killed over 48,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left the Strip in ruins. "Israel" has violated the ceasefire on numerous occasions and is currently preventing aid from entering the Strip.
In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Security Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
"Israel" is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
