The Palestinian presidency announced Friday that it will urgently bring "Israel’s" decision to occupy the Gaza Strip before the UN Security Council (UNSC), the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), warning that the plan amounts to "a full-fledged war crime."
In a statement, the presidency said the occupation's plan is part of a broader policy of "genocide, systematic killings, starvation, and siege," describing it as a "flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and UN resolutions."
The Palestinian leadership confirmed it will request emergency meetings at the UN, Arab League, and OIC to develop a unified response to what it called a "dangerous escalation." The presidency also issued a direct appeal to the international community, particularly to the US, urging President Donald Trump to “intervene and prevent the implementation of Israel’s decisions."
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli Security Cabinet’s approval of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan for the military to take control of Gaza City, calling it "a dangerous and illegal escalation."
“This decision reveals that the Israeli war was never defensive; it has always been a war of extermination and forced displacement against the people of Gaza," the ministry stated, warning of the “certain death" of civilians still in the enclave.
The ministry said it is launching a political campaign aimed at decision-making centers worldwide, urging governments and institutions to “assume their legal, political, and moral responsibilities" to stop “Israel’s" actions.
Israeli cabinet approves new plan to occupy Gaza City
The Ministry's statement comes after "Israel’s" security cabinet approved Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal to occupy Gaza City, marking the first phase of a broader military operation that could extend to the entire Gaza Strip, according to a senior Israeli official.
The decision today followed more than 10 hours of deliberations and signals a significant escalation in "Israel’s" aggression on Gaza.
US officials say Trump has chosen not to intervene, opting instead to let "Israel" make its own strategic decisions.
As part of the upcoming offensive, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) are expected to issue evacuation orders to approximately 1 million Palestinians currently residing in Gaza City and surrounding areas. In a statement, Netanyahu’s office revealed the IOF will control Gaza City "while providing humanitarian aid to the civilian population outside the combat zones."
