Palestinian tortured to death in Israeli prison; torture signs evident
The director of Jenin Governmental Hospital has reported that the deceased detainee arrived at the hospital handcuffed, showing clear signs of torture after a thorough examination of his body.
Ayman Rajeh Abed, a 58-year-old Palestinian man from Jenin, has died as a result of beatings and torture inflicted by Israeli forces, according to a joint statement from the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society.
Wissam Bakr, the director of Jenin Governmental Hospital, reported that the deceased detainee, from Kafr Dhan, arrived at the hospital handcuffed, showing clear signs of torture after a thorough examination of his body. Bakr told WAFA that the examination revealed evidence of beatings on various parts of Abed's body, confirming that he had been tortured during his arrest.
Ayman Taha, a relative of Abed, told WAFA that Abed was detained early this morning after Israeli forces raided his home, where he was severely beaten. Following the raid, Abed was transferred to the Salem military checkpoint, where further torture led to his death. Taha confirmed that Abed was in good health at the time of his detention and did not suffer from any serious illnesses.
The Red Crescent Society stated that its teams received Abed's body from the Salem military checkpoint.
On its part, the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine has issued a strong condemnation of the Israeli occupation forces' killing of Ayman Rajeh Abed from Kafr Dhan through fatal torture. According to the statement, Abed was arrested and tortured as a means to coerce his son into surrendering.
The movement described the treatment of Abed as a "documented war crime" and a severe indictment of international and humanitarian organizations that have remained silent about the occupation's actions against Palestinians. It also called on international and Arab institutions to demand the arrest and accountability of Israeli leaders for the abuses inflicted on prisoners, many of whom have died under torture.
The Islamic Jihad Movement asserted that such acts of brutality would not deter the Palestinian Resistance but rather reinforce its resolve to continue the struggle for liberation.
With Abed's death in Israeli detention, the number of confirmed prisoners and detainees killed since October 7 has risen to 25. These are only the individuals whose identities have been confirmed, as Israeli forces continue to withhold information on dozens of other detainees who have died in prisons and camps.
As a result, the exact number of deceased detainees remains uncertain, including those who were subjected to field executions.
Israeli forces detained over 10,400 Palestinians in West Bank since Oct. 7
At least 36 more Palestinians were rounded up by Israeli forces in military raids in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, according to prisoners’ affairs groups.
A journalist and four students were among the detainees, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners Society said in a joint statement.
“The detainees were subjected to abuse, severe beatings, and threats against their families, in addition to widespread acts of sabotage and destruction of citizens’ homes,” the statement said.
According to the statement, Israeli occupation forces have so far detained more than 10,400 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including al-Quds, since the start of the ongoing genocide and mass aggression against the Palestinian people on October 7, 2023.
The PPS and the Commission highlighted that the detention campaigns are among the most consistent and systematic policies employed by the Israeli occupation forces and are a major tool used in "Israel's" strategy of collective punishment, which is a central method used to target Palestinians.
The detention campaigns come in parallel with a largely condemned Israeli military offensive, the largest in 22 years, on several governorates in the northern occupied West Bank.
The Israeli military command said it had initiated a "wide-scale operation" in the governates of Tulkarm, Tubas, and Jenin, targeting Palestinian Resistance fighters. In detail, the aggression targets the Jenin, al-Far'a, and Nur Shams refugee camps, in Jenin, Tubas, and Tulkarm respectively.
In response, Palestinian Resistance factions have declared Operation Terror of the Camps as they confront the Israeli assault, continuing their operations and confrontations across northern West Bank areas.
Since the start of the offensive, the Israeli occupation forces have killed at least 20 Palestinians, including Mohammad Jaber, known as Abu Shujaa, the commander of the al-Quds Brigades - Tulkarm Brigade, along with several other Resistance fighters, following confrontations in Tulkarm.
