Peru's PM departs after only four days
Peru's Prime Minister confirms he is departing from his position four days after being named for the post as allegations of domestic violence surfaced against him.
Peru's Prime Minister Héctor Valer has stepped down from his post, a mere four days after being named, creating a new leadership vacuum in the South American nation.
Peruvian President Pedro Castillo now has to name a fourth PM in a span of just six months, after the PM-designate left his office following allegations of domestic abuse surfacing.
Just hours of Valer's appointment on Tuesday, police reports from 2016 emerged in which his wife and daughter accused him of domestic violence. A report filed by his 29-year old daughter stated that he "slapped, punched and kicked her in the face." Valer said the reports were fake.
“The complaints against me are based on lies,” Valer said. “I have come to leave a drop of blood to support the construction of this government.”
In a national address on Friday, the President accused Congress and his former ministers of sparking instability and "political uncertainty" in the country.
