Pezeshkian warns against Lebanon attack, reiterates support for Gaza
The Iranian and French presidents discuss in a phone call a range of subjects, including the war in Ukraine, the current events in Gaza and Lebanon, and negotiations to remove anti-Iranian sanctions.
French President Emmanuel Macron congratulated newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on winning the Iranian presidential election and praised the new Iranian president's foreign policy strategy of emphasizing engagement and balance.
In a phone call, Macron went on to say that he hoped the new age would see a greater improvement in Iran's relations with France and other European nations than in the previous one.
Pezeshkian, on the other hand, emphasized the historical, political, and cultural linkages that exist between France and Iran and suggested that these relationships may serve as a foundation for future diplomatic exchanges between the two nations.
Additionally, he declared that Iran was prepared to strengthen its ties with France by fostering mutual respect and integrity.
Both presidents held discussions on a range of subjects, including the war in Ukraine, the current events in Gaza and Lebanon, and negotiations to remove anti-Iranian sanctions.
Declaring that Iran is prepared to proceed with JCPOA-related talks on the lifting of anti-Iranian sanctions within the established parameters, Pezeshkian emphasized that Tehran expects other parties to fulfill their obligations and to stop applying pressure and harsh sanctions on the Iranian people.
Subsequently, Pezeshkian issued a warning, stating that any attack on Lebanon by "Israel" would backfire and have severe consequences on the occupation.
The Iranian president further denounced the Israeli war and crimes in Gaza, saying, "By occupying Palestine for more than 75 years, the Zionists have not stopped committing any crime against the Palestinians and have violated all international rules and laws."

In this context, he expressed hope that other nations will fulfill their obligations to the oppressed people of Gaza, saying that Iran will not spare any effort to help settle the Gaza situation and promote peace and stability in the region.
Furthermore, sources told Al Mayadeen that Pezeshkian will meet with a number of leaders of the Axis of Resistance on the sidelines of his inauguration ceremony to discuss current developments in the region.
This comes as high-ranking dignitaries from various countries have arrived in Tehran for the inauguration of Pezeshkian.
According to the Iranian parliament’s ICANA news agency, officials from Cuba, Colombia, Mongolia, Malta, Niger, Libya, Gambia, Sudan, Myanmar, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, and Madagascar have already reached the Iranian capital.
They are set to attend a ceremony at parliament on Tuesday afternoon, where Pezeshkian, a 69-year-old heart surgeon, will be officially sworn in as Iran’s new president. Pezeshkian will take the oath of office before Iranian lawmakers, the judiciary chief, and members of the Constitutional Council.
The event will feature more than 70 foreign delegates and will be broadcast live on state television. It will also be covered by over 600 reporters, photographers, and cameramen from both domestic and international media outlets.
