PFLP prisoners on hunger strike in solidarity with sick detainees
PFLP prisoners are set to embark on a collective hunger strike in solidarity with sick detainees who are suffering from inhumane conditions and increasing human rights violations in Israeli prisons.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) prisoners launched a hunger strike to confront the targeting of the Front's leaders in Israeli occupation prisons and in support of prisoner Walid Daqqa, as well as other ill prisoners.
In a statement, PFLP said Palestinian prisoners decided to take more severe and impactful steps against the Israeli prisons administration, in protest against the arbitrary punitive measures taken against the PFLP Secretary-General Ahmed Saadat among others in Israeli prisons.
It is noteworthy that prisoner Saadat was kidnapped in 2006 from the US- and UK-monitored Areeha prison after it was demolished by Israeli occupation forces and was sentenced to 30 years in Israeli prisons, after being accused of organizing the assassination of Israeli Minister Rehavam Ze'evi.
The statement detailed that 54 prisoners from the Popular Front will go on strike in the first batch, in protest of their harsh prison conditions amid a rise in the number of sick detainees and a policy of medical negligence pursued by prison authorities and in solidarity with Cancer-stricken prisoner Walid Daqqa.
Walid Daqqa has been detained since 1986 and was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of resisting the occupation. His sentence was later decreased to 37 years.
The prisoners also called on the Palestinian people and free people to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian prisoners in their battle against the Israeli jailer.
