The Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement (PIJ), Ziad Al-Nakhalah, and his accompanying delegation met with the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Minister Abbas Kamel, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
"The two parties discussed the latest developments in occupied Palestine, especially the situation in Al-Quds the West Bank, and Jenin, as well as the political situation in general and the internal situation in particular," the PIJ indicated in a statement.
"The two sides discussed bilateral relations, Egyptian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, and ways to restore Palestinian unity," the statement added, noting that "Egypt affirmed its continued efforts to support the Palestinian cause at all levels."
The statement said that the two sides also agreed to continue contact and consultations on all issues related to the Palestinian cause and the situation in the West Bank and Al-Quds in particular.
A few days ago, Al Mayadeen sources revealed an expected visit by Al-Nakhala to Cairo, upon an Egyptian invitation.
The sources revealed that the visit was decided more than two weeks ago and will include discussions of the escalation, especially under the new Israeli government.
The visit comes ahead of the PIJ's political bureau elections in early March, and according to the sources, the delegation will include the 5 members of the political bureau in Gaza and others from abroad, accompanied by the Secretary-General.
It also comes days after the Israeli occupation forces raid of the Jenin camp, which killed 10 Palestinians and was followed by two shootings in Al-Quds that killed seven Israelis. Palestinian Resistance in Gaza also fired two missiles toward occupied Askalan, in response to the Israeli aggression on Jenin.
