Premature baby rescued from killed mother's womb in Gaza dies
Sabreen Jouda dies of health complications only five days after she was born.
A Palestinian baby, who was rescued from her dead mother's womb after she was killed by an Israeli strike, passed away on Thursday.
Sabreen Jouda died of health complications in a Gazan hospital on Thursday, April 25, 2024, her uncle announced, following several attempts to save her life.
Sabreen, like many other Palestinian infants, was born an orphan after "Israel" struck her house, killing both her parents and her four-year-old sister. Rescue teams transferred the bodies to the hospital, where doctors performed an emergency C-section on her mother, Sabreen Al-Sakani, from whom she got her name.
Baby Sabreen was born at only 30 weeks and was kept in an incubator at the neonatal intensive care unit at a different hospital. She died five days later and was buried next to her late father.
19,000 orphaned children in Gaza
Last week, UN agencies issued a dire warning, revealing that nearly 10,000 women have been killed in the past six months due to Israeli aggression and systematic famine in Gaza. They highlighted a staggering statistic: one child is either injured or killed every 10 minutes.
In a related development, a recent report by UN Women revealed a devastating toll of the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza: an estimated 6,000 mothers have been among the casualties, leaving behind approximately 19,000 orphaned children.
