Prisoner Khader Adnan continues hunger strike for the 44th day
Prisoner Khader Adnan continues his open-hunger strike as his health further deteriorates.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement leader Khader Adnan continues his open-ended hunger strike in the Al-Jalama detention center for 44 consecutive days in a row.
Randa Musa, the wife of Palestinian Islamic Jihad leader Khader Adnan, confirmed, in an interview with Al Mayadeen on Monday, that "Sheikh Khader refuses to undergo medical examinations and continues his strike."
Musa added that "the sheikh's message is clear by rejecting all occupation measures and their consequences." Meanwhile, Adnan's lawyer warned that the Palestinian prisoner is in need of immediate medical attention as his health further deteriorates.
Randa also noted that Adnan arrived in a wheelchair for his last meeting with his attorney, and insect bites could be seen on his face, stressing that her husband is kept in a cramped cell with a locked window that is infested with insects, and he is suffering from extreme cold, continual harassment, and persistent pressure to call off his strike and undergo medical exams—all of which he strongly refuses.
It is worth noting that Adnan is considered the leader of the Battle of the Empty Stomachs against the policy of administrative detention in occupation prisons.
He was detained several times before and released following days of hunger strike. Most significant was his 2018 arrest. Adnan ended his hunger strike on October 29, 2018, after 58 days, and was released on November 13, 2018; his family considered this a "third victory for him."
Adnan launched a fourth hunger strike after his 2021 arrest; he was liberated 25 days into his hunger strike, winning his fourth victory against the occupation.
The occupation forces detained him once again on February 5th as part of a wide-range detention campaign they conducted across occupied Palestinian territories in the West Bank.
