The Kremlin announced on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone conversation to discuss the situation in the Middle East, including US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war on Gaza.
According to the Kremlin’s statement, both leaders expressed an interest in finding negotiated solutions regarding Iran’s nuclear program and in promoting broader regional stability in Syria and the Middle East.
The discussion comes at a time of strained Russian-Israeli relations, which have deteriorated further in recent months amid Moscow’s opposition to Israeli military actions and its deepening ties with Tehran.
Tensions have also risen following confirmed reports that the Israeli occupation supplied weapons and air defense munitions to Ukraine, an issue that has drawn repeated condemnation from Russia. Moscow has criticized these transfers as acts that “fuel conflict” and undermine diplomatic efforts in Europe and the Middle East.
Russia has also condemned Israeli aggression against several regional states, including Qatar and Iran, describing such actions as destabilizing and contrary to international law. The Kremlin reiterated its call for de-escalation and the pursuit of political solutions over military measures across the region.
