In its readout of the call, the Kremlin added that "reacting to concerns expressed by Emmanuel Macron, the Russian president underscored that the Russian armed forces taking part in the special military operation are doing everything possible to preserve the lives of civilians."
The two also discussed the negotiations between Moscow and Kiev, as well as Moscow's stance on how a deal could be reached, according to the statement, which did not provide further details.
In response to the French president's concerns, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the country's armed forces were doing everything possible to save civilian lives and open humanitarian corridors for the safe evacuation of Ukrainians.
The French president expressed concern about the situation in Mariupol and called for an immediate ceasefire, local media sources reported.
