Raisi ahead of Doha visit: Important step to strengthen regional diplomacy
Before leaving for Qatar, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expresses hope that his visit will be a step toward strengthening political and trade relations with countries in the region.
The Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi left Tehran for Doha on a two-day visit to participate in the Gas Summit.
In a speech before his departure, Raisi expressed that the visit is a step toward activating relations with the Gulf countries and employing mutual potential, adding that cooperation in the energy sector with Qatar is important.
Stressing that Iran is among the three most important gas producers and exporters, he hoped the visit would strengthen political and trade relations between the Gulf states and the region.
During a visit to Iran last month, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, Emir of Qatar, extended an official invitation to Raisi to take part in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and said that “Qatar is determined to make the utmost efforts to increase relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran in various political and economic fields, and the Emir of Qatar is personally following up on the development of relations between the two countries. "
Yesterday, the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Rostam Ghasemi, announced an agreement with his Qatari counterpart to establish regular shipping routes between the two countries' ports.
According to Ghasemi, the two agreed to increase the usage of Qatari commercial planes over Iranian skies.
During his visit to Doha, the Iranian President is expected to sign several agreements and memoranda of understanding.
