Raisi: A Stable Iraq Is Supported by Iran
During a phone discussion with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stated that Iran-Iraq relations are "more than just typical relations between two neighboring countries."
Iran-Iraq relations, according to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, are "more than just typical relations between two neighboring countries."
"The Iranian and Iraqi peoples have common aspirations," Raisi continued, "and hence our common enemy's desperate attempts cannot create an imbalance in our two countries' relations."
These were the important remarks he told the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi during a phone call today, Tuesday.
"A strong, independent, united, secure, and developed Iraq is not just our sole hope," Raisi added, "But this issue is at the heart of the two countries' work program to enhance bilateral and regional cooperation."
The Iranian president thanked the Iraqi Prime Minister for inviting him to attend the summit of Iraq's neighboring countries, emphasizing that Iran supports any measure or action that helps Iraq achieve stability and strengthen its position in the region.
He also noted that Iraq's initiative to convene a conference between neighboring countries will have national and regional implications. The first of which is to highlight Iraq's strength and active role in the region, and the second of which is to reinforce the region's strength and demonstrate that its countries are capable of resolving their problems on their own.
Raisi told Al-Kadhimi over the phone that the region's countries are capable of drawing and implementing a road map for achieving security, stability, and lasting peace through cooperation. He emphasized that foreign interference in the region's affairs will not achieve security requirements or pave the way for development.
When it came to Yemen, the Iranian President also emphasized the importance of resolving the crisis and ending the war in Yemen, urging everyone to work toward this goal while respecting the Yemeni people's right to choose their own destiny.
In exchange, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi voiced his hope that bilateral agreements between the two nations would be implemented more quickly, stressing that Tehran is a true partner of Baghdad and has always stood by the Iraqi government and people in difficult times.
Al-Kadhimi stated that the region is currently facing major challenges and that solutions will require wisdom, patience, and cooperation among the region's countries.
Before he was elected Iran's president in February, Ebrahim Raisi paid a visit to Iraq's two presidents and met with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, where they spoke about the importance of working together to improve the region's security and stability, while keeping regional interests and issues of mutual concern in mind.
