Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stressed Sunday that the relations between Iraq and Iran are exceptional, noting that there is a deep will on the part of the officials of the two countries to develop relations in various fields.

During a press conference with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, Raisi said that the two stressed the importance of relations between the countries of the region and welcomed the dialogue between them.

Raisi indicated the necessity of continuing the armistice in Yemen, explaining that establishing a Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue would put an end to the war.

The Iranian President affirmed that "The Zionist regime's attempts to normalize its relations with regional countries will not create security for the regime."

He also emphasized that "dialogue among statesmen in the region will solve the problems," noting that the foreign presence in the region will not lead to a solution to its problems.

Cooperation to ease situation in region

On his part, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi said that he and the Iranian leader agreed to cooperate to ease the situation in the region.

Al-Kadhimi pointed out that Iraq and Iran agreed to support the armistice and dialogue in Yemen in order to end the war that harms the Yemeni people.

An official reception ceremony was held Sunday for the Iraqi Prime Minister in the Saadabad Heritage and Cultural Complex in Tehran, in the presence of Raisi.

Al-Kadhimi arrived in Tehran on Sunday afternoon and was received by the Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian.

The visit follows his previous one yesterday to Saudi Arabia where he met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.

Officials expected to address Iran-Saudi Arabia discussions

According to Iranian state TV, the Iranian and Iraqi officials are expected to address, among other things, the restart of discussions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the fifth session of which was conducted in April.

Iraqi sources told Al Mayadeen that the meetings in Riyadh and Tehran are to discuss important files regarding Iraqi mediation to open diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, noting that the meetings in Riyadh and Tehran have brought forward positive effects for Iraq, especially regarding strengthening regional partnership and cooperation.
