Touching on the ongoing developments in Ukraine following Russia's special operation, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi affirmed Sunday that Tehran is ready to play any diplomatic role that would lead to a peaceful resolution.
Raisi emphasized that the Islamic Republic opposes domination and hegemony and supports the right to self-determination of all nations, he emphasized during a cabinet meeting.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran -- while understanding the security concerns about several decades of expansionism by NATO -- reiterated the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all countries of the world," the Iranian president pointed out.
He added that Tehran firmly believes that "diplomacy and sincere adherence to international obligations by all parties is the only way for being out of the current situation.”
Raisi stressed that protecting lives and civilian property, as well as respecting international and humanitarian laws must be taken into serious consideration by all parties.
The Iranian president also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other responsible organizations to pay their utmost effort in order to ensure the safety of Iranian citizens in Ukraine.
