The meeting is being held during the high-level ASEAN events. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Association plays a crucial role in the evolving, more equitable multipolar world order.
ASEAN has consistently been at the heart of regional efforts to promote a stable and secure, non-bloc development for the Asia-Pacific region.
On its Telegram channel, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that "Russia and China have been working in tandem on building a multipolar world order with better justice for all, guided by the principle of genuine multilateralism."
"We believe that the significant potentials of Russia and China, as well as their participation in such new multilateral associations as BRICS and the SCO, can have a positive impact on our interaction with the Association," a separate statement reads.
"This will also enhance our cooperation with individual Member States of ASEAN, helping us address global and regional issues based on the comprehensive and interconnected principles of the UN Charter," the statement added.
