Earlier this week, it announced the capture of three villages spread across the east, southeast, and northeast of Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that troops had taken control of nearly 880 square kilometers (340 square miles) of territory since the beginning of the year.

Ukrainian forces, on the other hand, have been grappling with shortages of troops and ammunition for months, despite assurances from Western nations regarding arms deliveries.
