Russian military aircraft tracked over Alaska air defense zone: NORAD
The statement noted that the aircraft did not violate US or Canadian airspace as it remained in international airspace.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command said in a statement on Wednesday that a Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone was detected and tracked on May 15.
"The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected and tracked a Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on May 15, 2023," the statement said.
The statement noted that the aircraft did not violate US or Canadian airspace as it remained in international airspace.
The flight was taking place amid Russia's large-scale military drills in the area surrounding Alaska.
The statement added that Russian activity in the ADIZ is normal and represents no major threat to the US and Canada.

On February 14, four Russian aircraft were allegedly detected and intercepted by North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) in international airspace close to the state of Alaska.
"The Alaskan Region of NORAD detected, tracked, positively identified, and intercepted four Russian aircraft entering and operating within the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone on February 13, 2023,” NORAD said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the Russian aircraft was still in international airspace. The statement added that Russian action in the region is routine and is neither seen as provocative nor a threat by the US.
