Sanaa welcomes Cairo's rejection of some states' Red Sea involvement
The Sanaa-based Foreign Ministry says Cairo's stance "reflects the Egyptian political leadership's strategic vision in handling navigation and national security issues in the Red Sea."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Sanaa-based Yemeni government welcomed Egypt’s rejection of the involvement of non-littoral states in security arrangements related to the Red Sea, as confirmed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty during his visit to the United States.
Commenting on Egypt's stance, the Sanaa government stated that Cairo's rejection of non-littoral states' involvement in Red Sea security arrangements "reflects the Egyptian political leadership's strategic vision in handling navigation and national security issues in the Red Sea."
On his part, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Sanaa government, Waheed al-Shami, emphasized Yemen's commitment to safeguarding navigation in the Red Sea and the importance of cooperation among littoral states in ensuring security and protecting the economic rights of these states, away from foreign interference.
Al-Shami pointed out that rising tensions in the Red Sea are due to US arrogance and the absolute bias of several Western countries in favor of "Israel", despite its genocidal crimes against the people of Gaza.
He also criticized these countries for rejecting Sanaa's fair proposal to stop the war on Gaza and allow the entry of food and medicine into the besieged Strip in exchange for lifting the naval blockade on the Israeli-occupied ports of Palestine.
The Yemeni official expressed his appreciation for the littoral states' refusal to participate in the US-led aggressive campaign against Yemen and their understanding of Yemen's decision, recalling the historical incidents of the closure of the Suez Canal and Bab al-Mandab under similar circumstances, supported by Arab solidarity.
Since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, the Yemeni Armed Forces have imposed a naval blockade on "Israel", targeting Israeli or Israeli-bound ships sailing toward Israeli-occupied Palestinian ports in support of the Palestinian people. This has prompted the US to assemble a coalition in the Red Sea consisting of its allies to intercept the Yemeni attacks. Due to its supportive stance, Yemen has endured both American and British aggression on several of its areas, aimed at deterring the YAF from persisting in their support front for Gaza.
