Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa received an invitation to visit Germany, his office announced, after a phone call with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
The invitation comes just after his office announced a similar invitation for a visit to France.
A spokesperson for the German government had stated earlier on Friday that Scholz assured al-Sharraa of Berlin's readiness to support efforts to reconstruct Syria.
The phone lasted for an hour, during which Scholz congratulated the Syrian people on their success in ending the rule of ousted President Bashar al-Assad. The spokesperson also said that the two officials discussed the need for a comprehensive political process in Syria, which would allow the participation of all Syrians.
