SDF demolishes bridge linking Deir Ezzor to Hatla in eastern Syria
Armed groups continue to clash in eastern Syria following the turnover of power.
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) blew up the bridge linking the town of Hatlah to the city of Deir Ezzor in eastern Syria, Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported.
Our correspondent also said that United States aircraft also struck the bridge, which connects the western bank of the Euphrates to the eastern bank of the river.
This comes as the US-backed SDF clashes with armed groups, which assumed power in the country, in the area. Meanwhile, the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) continues to clash with Kurdish groups in northern Syria, including in the areas near the Tishrin Dam, which is situated on the Euphrates.
The dam, located a couple of hundred kilometers to the northwest of the destroyed bridge, has suffered substantial damage due to ongoing fighting. Now, officials are calling for an end to clashes in the area, as the dam is at risk of collapsing, threatening vast areas in both Syria and Iraq.
Al Mayadeen correspondent reported early on Friday that fighting in the area has been ceased do to the potential grave risks.
On his part, the commander of the SDF, Mazloum Abdi, said that he hopes that a ceasefire would be expanded to encompass a comprehensive peace deal in the country. He also pointed to the involvement of the "Autonomous Administration" in shaping Syria's "political process," which he believes would forward a resolution to the crisis.
