The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have categorically denied reports by Syria’s official news agency, SANA, which accused them of targeting a Syrian army position near the Tishrin Dam in the eastern Aleppo countryside.
In a statement, the SDF said the explosion that occurred in the area was caused by landmines surrounding the military site, not by any attack from their forces.
The SDF stressed that its forces have not conducted any military operations in the area's vicinity and reaffirmed its commitment to de-escalation and maintaining stability along the frontlines, focusing efforts on safeguarding civilians and countering threats to their security.
The group also urged media outlets to verify information before publication and to rely on credible sources to avoid fueling tension or spreading misinformation between local factions.
Rising frictions
Earlier, Syria’s Ministry of Defense said in a statement released by SANA that the SDF had fired a guided missile at a Syrian army position near the dam, killing two soldiers and wounding another. The Ministry accused the SDF of violating previous agreements and disregarding coordination efforts by attacking military positions.
Tensions between the Syrian army and the SDF have intensified in recent weeks, particularly in Aleppo and its countryside, with both sides exchanging accusations of breaching ceasefire understandings.
On October 17, SDF commander Mazloum Abdi announced a preliminary agreement with Damascus to integrate SDF units into the Syrian army and merge police forces in northeastern Syria into the national security apparatus.
While the incident at Tishrin Dam has further strained relations, both parties have publicly maintained that dialogue remains essential to prevent escalation and preserve security in contested regions of northern Syria.
