Several explosions hit Crimea: Local official
An aide to the region's head, Oleg Kryuchkov, reports explosions that targeted the Crimean peninsula.
Several explosions rocked the Crimean peninsula on Tuesday, according to an aide to the region's leader, Oleg Kryuchkov, who added that official statements must be awaited.
"So far I can only confirm the very fact of several explosions in the Novofedorivka area. I ask everyone to wait for official reports and not to spread versions," the official wrote on his Telegram channel.
Crimean President Sergey Aksenov stated that he is on his way to Novofedorivka and that the incident's circumstances are being investigated.
The Crimean district head, Viktoria Kazmirova, confirmed on Tuesday that the Russian military airfield had been targeted. "Our airport is on fire." "All the windows have been shattered." The explosions would be a rare Ukrainian attack located about 200 kilometers from the frontlines.
Several Russian Telegram channels reported on Tuesday that local residents had not heard the thud of artillery and had ruled out a missile attack.
On Tuesday, Margarita Simonyan, the influential editor-in-chief of the RT news channel, tweeted that the explosions were caused by sabotage rather than a Ukrainian airstrike.
Russia says ammunition detonated at Crimea base
The Russian defense ministry reported that ammunition exploded at an airfield in Moscow-annexed Crimea on Tuesday, but no one was injured.
The explosions at Saki airfield occurred on the 167th day of Russia's military intervention in Ukraine.
"Several aviation munitions detonated" near the settlement of Novofyodorovka, the defense ministry said in a statement carried by Russian news agencies. "As a result of the explosion, no one was hurt."
The Russian defense ministry said it was investigating the cause of the explosions but that the airfield was not targeted in an attack.
Last month, a drone attack targeted the Russian fleet located in the port of Sevastopol, Crimea, and wounded five, the city's mayor, Mikhail Rrazvozhayev, said.
Razvozhayev said all festivities have been canceled following the wounding of five people including employees and military staff.
"An unidentified object flew into the courtyard of the Fleet Headquarters, according to preliminary data, it is a drone. Five people were injured, they are members of the fleet headquarters, and there were no deaths," Razvozhayev said on Telegram.
