Shamkhani: Opportunity to use Iran’s Goodwill lost by US
Several rounds of negotiations held in Vienna over the past year have failed to bring the US back into compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), says Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani stated that the United States and the European Union have squandered an opportunity to benefit from Tehran's demonstrated goodwill in the Vienna talks on the revival of the JCPOA.
Shamkhani stated on his Twitter account that several rounds of negotiations held in Vienna over the past year have failed to bring the US back into compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
“The Vienna talks have reached a stage where the knot can only be untied through the adherence of the violator party to Iran's logical and principled approaches,” he stated.
On Friday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian tweeted that Tehran and the P4+1 still have a chance to reach a "good and reliable" agreement if the US makes the necessary decision and honors its commitments.
Despite the Islamic Republic's full adherence to its commitments under the deal, the US administration, led by former President Donald Trump, unilaterally exited the JCPOA in May 2018 and launched a maximum pressure campaign against it.
Since April 2021, several rounds of talks in Vienna have taken place between Iran and the five remaining JCPOA parties to bring the US back into the Iran deal. However, due to their country's withdrawal from the agreement, US diplomats are barred from attending the Vienna talks.
