Soldiers injured, killed in Armenia-Azerbaijan border clashes
Confrontations renewed between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the borders, resulting in several casualties from both sides.
The Armenian defense ministry said eight Armenian soldiers had sustained injuries amid the confrontations, adding that six of them are in critical condition.
"On December 10, during the resistance of the offensive activities of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces subdivisions in the eastern direction of Armenia (Gegharkunik province), the Armenian side has one victim, a serviceman of Armenian Armed Force, Vahe Manaseryan, and eight injured servicemen," the defense ministry declared in a statement.
"Eight more servicemen are injured, the condition of the six is assessed as severe, the other two-medium and light," the ministry added.
An Azerbaijani soldier has died amid border clashes with Armenian forces, officials in Baku said Thursday.
Baku's defense ministry said an Azerbaijani soldier "was killed overnight as a result of a provocation by Armenia's armed forces" near the countries' shared border.
"Full responsibility for the escalation lies with Armenia's political and military leaders," the ministry said in a statement.
Armenia also called on Azerbaijan to "refrain from provocative actions."
A ceasefire agreement
The Armenian defense ministry had announced reaching a ceasefire agreement at the country's eastern border with Azerbaijan in mid-November after about 3 days of border tension between the two neighbors.
Clashes between the two armies had renewed on the border in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which saw 15 Armenian soldiers dying as a result.
After the truce and under Russian mediation, Azerbaijan released 10 Armenian soldiers who had been captured last month during the aforementioned between the two Caucasus countries.
