Sudan closes borders with Central African Republic over “security concerns”
Security threats and fragile border practices forced Sudan to close its border with the Central African Republic, says the commander of the joint forces.
The Sudanese Rapid Support Forces stated that the country’s border with the Central African Republic has been closed over “security concerns”.
Colonel Absher Baleel, the commander of the joint forces tasked with securing the border strip between Sudan and Central Africa, said in a statement posted on the Rapid Support Forces' official Facebook page that "the borders between Sudan and Central Africa have been completely closed for security concerns."
"The forces that carried out the border closure were a joint division that included Sudanese (Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces), as well as forces from Central African countries and Chad," he continued.
Baleel went on to say that "security threats and fragile border practices forced Sudan to take such a move".
In a separate context, the Sudanese Forces of Freedom of and Change accepted the invitation of the United Nations mission to support dialogue between the various Sudanese parties.
Sudan has seen numerous demonstrations since September. The protests recorded numerous casualties and injuries, amid communication networks and internet services cutoffs by the Sudanese authorities.
