Sudan's Leader al-Burhan says New PM to be Technocrat
Armed forces commander-in-chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced that the new Prime Minister will be a technocrat and will pick the new government without the military's interference.
Sudan's new Prime Minister will be a technocrat, but no candidates have yet been identified, according to armed forces commander-in-chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Al-Burhan stated that a new prime minister will pick the government and that the military will not meddle. According to the Sudanese leader, it is up to diverse layers of Sudanese society to achieve a consensus on a prime ministerial candidate.
"The previous prime minister was elected through consensus between political and military forces. Now there are no political forces, so we have a patriotic duty to lead the people and help them in the transition period until elections are held. We will choose a prime minister who will belong to technocrats," al-Burhan confirmed.
There is no list with names of candidates for the post yet, the official added.
A few days ago, unidentified military forces had stormed Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok's house, placing him under house arrest.
A day after, the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, declared a state of emergency and announced the dissolution of the Sovereign Council and the government.
A day after the coup, the dismissed Prime Minister was returned to his home.
