Syria calls on UNSC to denounce "Israel" following aggression
The Syrian Foreign Ministry criticizes the UNSC's silence regarding the latest Israeli aggression on its sovereign territories.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on Friday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates prepared and sent two identical letters to the UNSC, with one destined for the Secretary-General of the UN and the other for the President of the Security Council.
In the letter, referring to the Israeli aggression that was carried out on Friday, the Ministry stated that "the Israeli enemy carried out at 12:32 a.m. on Friday dawn an aggression with bursts of missiles from the direction of occupied Syrian Golan, targeting some points in the vicinity of Damascus, this cowardly aggression led to the martyrdom of three soldiers, the injury of seven others, and material losses.”
The Ministry added that Syria has all the rights to respond to this aggression by appropriate means as recognized by international law and the Charter of the UN.
It called for the Security Council and the Secretary General of the United Nations to exercise their responsibilities under the Charter and to condemn these aggressions.
According to the Ministry, the failure of the Security Council to take the required measures to prevent and condemn these repeated attacks shows its inability to assume its responsibilities and its failure to achieve the minimum implementation of its duties in maintaining peace and security in the region, and the world.
It also stated that "Israeli attacks cannot be treated distinctively from the US aggression and violations of the principles of international law and its occupation of northeast Syria, its' looting of oil, and supplying of weapons to the militias hired by Washington in order to impede the political solution and the restoration of security and stability to Syria."
In the last paragraphs of the letters, the Ministry noted that these attacks are carried out in direct support of armed terrorist organizations across Syria.
Last Tuesday, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said during the tripartite summit in Teheran that "Syria's sovereignty, stability, and security are a red line, and the illegal US presence in the country is the reason for its instability," saying that "the presence of the Syrian army on the borders is the guarantor of the country's stability."
Furthermore, Raisi noted the role of the Israeli occupation practices in destabilizing global security, saying that "the practices of the Zionist entity lead to destabilization of global security, which will have repercussions on the entity itself."
