Syria on Wednesday strongly condemned an Israeli drone strike that killed six Syrian army soldiers near the city of al-Kiswah in the Damascus countryside.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry stated that the attack targeted a unit of the army and constituted a “serious violation of international law and the UN Charter,” as well as a “clear breach of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The Ministry said the strike was part of “repeated aggressive policies” pursued by the Israeli occupation aimed at undermining security and stability in the region. It reaffirmed Syria’s right to defend its territory and people in accordance with international law.
Repeated Israeli aggression
Damascus called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to assume its legal and moral responsibilities to stop "Israel’s" ongoing assaults and compel it to end violations against Syria, its people, and its national institutions.
The drone strike on Tuesday targeted an elite unit of the Syrian Ministry of Defense near al-Kiswah, close to the Sweida highway. On the same day, an Israeli attack in the northern Quneitra countryside killed a Syrian civilian after a house in the village of Taranja was struck.
Earlier on Wednesday, Israeli occupation forces carried out limited incursions in Syria’s southern Quneitra countryside on Wednesday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The monitor reported that Israeli infantry units advanced toward farms surrounding the village of al-Dwaya al-Saghira from the western side without the use of armored vehicles. The troops reportedly withdrew after nearly an hour.
No regard for Syria's sovereignty
The move comes amid a series of recurring Israeli attacks in the area, including airstrikes, which have fueled concerns among local residents and escalated tensions along Syria’s southern border.
The Israeli occupation’s actions in Syria come amid heightened regional tensions and have drawn criticism from several states calling for respect of Syrian sovereignty and adherence to international law.
On Monday, Syria's Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli occupation forces' (IOF) military incursion in the Beit Jann area of rural Damascus, calling it a "blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity."
