The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The European Union institution lacks the least degree of independence.

An official source in the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates announced today that Syria deplores "the positions and lies contained in the recent statement of the European Council," saying that these statements "express the state of separation from reality" that the European Union institution suffers from.

The source added, "This institution lacks the slightest degree of independence and has agreed to be a follower and implementer of American policies, which made it lose its identity."

The source also commented on the statement of the Council of the European Union that had said that the conflict in Syria not ending and is a source of suffering and instability. The source explained that the current situation is caused first and foremost by "Western interventions in Syrian affairs, illegal unilateral coercive measures, and desperate attempts to save face after the faltering of the aggressive project against Syria."

The source also stressed that “Syria, whose people and army defeated terrorist groups and their supporters from the colonialist West, will not allow the European Union and others to interfere in its affairs and impede the process of consolidating stability in the country,” adding that “Syria basically does not pay any attention to the valueless stances of this union.” He said that it is not worth the ink with which it was written.

The European Union, during a session of its Foreign Affairs Council, earlier, expressed its categorical rejection of the normalization of relations with Syria. The union stated that it "will not participate in the reconstruction of Syria until the political transition as stipulated in Security Council Resolution 2254 is completed."
