SANA agency reported that Syrian air defense systems intercepted Israeli strikes in the vicinity of the Syrian capital, Damascus, today afternoon.

Al Mayadeen 's correspondent in Syria confirmed sounds of an explosion in the airspace of the western Damascus countryside.

Syria's Defense Minister confirmed earlier on Wednesday that several civilians were killed and some were injured in an Israeli missile attack on Homs province.

"Today at approximately 00:30 [21:30 GMT on Tuesday], the Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from a direction north of Tripoli [in Lebanon], striking a number of positions in the city of Homs and [Homs] province," the Ministry said in a statement.

"Our air defenses responded to the enemy's missiles and shot some of them down. As a result of the aggression, several civilians were killed and wounded, and public and private property was damaged," it added.

'Israel' murders IRGC advisor in Syria

A military advisor of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) was martyred in an Israeli aggression targeting southern Damascus in the early hours of February 2, Iranian media reported.

Israeli airstrikes were launched from over the occupied Golan Heights against a target south of the capital, according to a Syrian military source, leading to the martyrdom of IRGC advisor to Syria Saeid Ali Dadi.

The source stated that Syrian air defense systems intercepted a number of Israeli missiles during the aggression.

This comes less than one month after an Israeli strike on a building in the suburbs of Damascus resulted in the martyrdom of the IRGC's intelligence advisor in Syria Hojjatollah Omidvar, his assistant, and 3 other members of the group.

Another senior IRGC commander, Seyyed Razi Mousavi, was killed along with several of his companions in an Israeli strike on their position in December last year.
