The Syrian Army successfully regained control on Friday of several points breached by terrorist groups during their attack on Aleppo and Idlib countryside, which began on Wednesday.

The Syrian army confirmed that its forces are continuing to reinforce all positions along various fronts with equipment and soldiers to prevent further breaches as they also inflicted heavy losses on the terror groups, killing and wounding hundreds and destroying dozens of vehicles and armored cars as well as downing 17 drones.

The army clarified that the al-Nusra terrorists rely on large numbers of foreign militants and use various types of heavy and medium weapons, as well as drones.

In the early hours of Friday, the Syrian Army forced the militants to retreat from the town of Al-Baqoum after regaining control, while also targeting the supply lines of armed groups in the Aleppo and Idlib countryside, which come through border crossings with Turkey.

Syrian army foils attack, launches counteroffensive in Idlib

On Thursday, the Syrian army launched a counteroffensive to retake positions it had previously vacated in southeastern Idlib.

An intense assault was launched by armed militant groups in the Aleppo and Idlib countrysides since dawn Wednesday, according to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent. Syrian forces have inflicted heavy losses on the militants, killing and wounding at least 400.

The correspondent reported that the Syrian Arab Army has launched a counteroffensive targeting positions seized by the armed groups in southeastern Idlib.

The army regained control of the village of Jobas and forced militants to retreat from the villages of Dadikh and Kafr Batekh in eastern Idlib, with the heaviest fighting concentrated around these areas. Syrian forces also conducted targeted rocket strikes to prevent militants from returning to these strategic locations.

The counteroffensive was accompanied by a sustained barrage of missile strikes on the headquarters of the joint operations room of militants, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, which is supported by Turkish and Ukrainian intelligence. These strikes targeted areas west of Aleppo and extended as far as the supply lines in Jabal al-Zawiya, south of Idlib.
