One Syrian soldier was killed in an Israeli aggression targeting several army sites around the capital Damascus early Sunday, state media SANA reported, citing a military source.

"The aggression was launched from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting several of our military sites in the southern region and a residential building in the Kafr Sousa area in Damascus," the source said.

Despite their large number of missiles, Syrian air defenses intercepted a significant number of them, the source added as per SANA.

Local radio station Sham FM reported "an explosion in an ammunition depot" around the capital due to the Israeli strikes, adding that "the sounds of ambulances and fire trucks" were heard in the streets of Damascus directly following the attack.

Recent aggressions on Syria

This marked the third aggression carried out by the occupation army on the Arab country in under a month.

On Tuesday, a Syrian military source said that "Israel" targeted a location near the coastal city of Baniyas from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea. The source added that as a result of the aggression, there were some material losses.

Earlier on 27 July, the Israeli occupation carried out an aerial aggression targeting several points in the southern region of Damascus in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and its military capabilities have intensified since the beginning of the al-Aqsa Flood Operation, due to the country's key role in the Resistance Axis and in supporting its members across the region.

These attacks have varied in form, including direct assaults on Syrian Arab Army positions and research centers, assassinations of Resistance figures in the Syrian capital Damascus, and targeting of infrastructure and civilian neighborhoods in Syrian cities.
