Syrian-Russian Talks in Damascus on Projects, Especially Electricity
Syria and Russia hold talks on joint projects between the two countries and stress the importance of speeding the implementation of power agreements.
Syria and Russia discussed joint projects during a meeting between Russia's Ambassador to Damascus, Aleksandr Yefimov, and Syria's Electricity Minister, Ghassan al-Zamel, at the forefront of which is Syria's electricity sector, with al-Zamel stressing the importance of the speedy execution of agreements.
According to Syria's Electricity Ministry, Yefimov expressed his country's readiness to present all kinds of support for Russia's power sector and stressed the importance of constant coordination to improve bilateral ties and cooperation and to implement joint projects that can benefit both countries.
The Ministry clarified that Syria's General Company of Electricity is following up on contracts with a Russian company to rehabilitate the Tishreen power station, noting that this project will increase power supply by 200MW.
Syria also signed a €99.5 million contract with Iran's Peymanir to rehabilitate the 576 MW Mhardeh power plant.
