Taiwan Defense Minister: Tensions With China at 40-year Peak
Taiwan's Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-ching stated that the situation with China is the most dangerous in over 40 years.
Chiu Kuo-ching, Taiwan's Defense Minister warned on Wednesday that military tension with China has reached its peak in over 40 years.
This comes days after 38 Chinese military aircraft entered Taiwan's "air defense" zone in two batches, on Friday, at a time when Beijing was celebrating the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Kuo-ching noted that China "has the ability to invade Taiwan," and it would be able to comprehensively carry out an invasion by 2025.
Tensions between Beijing and Taipei have been high since last Friday when Taiwan reported nearly 150 entering its air defense zone over the course of 4 days.
US President Joe Biden commented about the tension between China and Taiwan, emphasizing that he and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to abide by the Taiwan Agreement.
The US, Taiwan's primary arms supplier, has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the island while simultaneously criticizing Beijing, while China blames Washington's policy of arming Taiwan and sending warships across the Taiwan Strait for escalating tensions.
