Tangsiri: Oceans and Seas No Longer America's Backyard
The Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps refutes US allegations that its naval forces were only monitoring the recent operation in the Sea of Oman, stressing that oceans and seas are no longer America's backyard.
The Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, revealed details about the Naval operation against the US Navy that tried to hijack the Iranian oil tanker.
During a televised interview, Tangsiri responded to Washington's allegations that its naval forces were only monitoring the operation.
He confirmed that the Iranian missile launchers at the coasts were ready to respond to any US action.
Tangsiri affirmed that the ceased oil tanker belonged to Iran, and the US did not allow anyone to approach it and explained that the special force in the Revolution Guards Navy disembarked from the helicopter to claim the tanker.
The admiral mentioned that the Americans were monitoring the operation from a distance, through a drone, and directly sent two US Navy destroyers to take the combat position. After warning the destroyers, the IRGC navy sailed towards them.
"In the next phase, the US forces added three other warships to frighten Iranian forces, but they failed and had to retreat and leave the scene when faced with Iranian forces’ courage," he added.
Responding to the US claims that their naval forces were only monitoring the operation, Tangsiri said "this is a big lie."
The commander indicated that "the released footage has clearly and undeniably outlined the scene, showing that US warships were as close as less than 30 meters to Iranian vessels and forces."
The US could have watched the operation from a farther distance or by drones if they wanted only to monitor, he added.
Tangsiri emphasized that oceans and seas are no longer America's backyard and stressed that Iran is improving its military technology day after day and preparing itself against any threat.
He also threatened to turn enemy boats and destroyers into "underwater wrecks" in case they attack Iran.
