Tebboune Receives Phone Call from Macron
Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday.
The two Presidents discussed bilateral relations in addition to numerous regional issues, particularly the situations in Libya and the Sahel region.
Tebboune had previously stated during the "National Day of Memory" that improving relations with France would require the latter to accept responsibility for its colonial crimes.
France, which colonized Algeria between 1830 and 1962, conducted a total of 17 nuclear tests in the Algerian desert between 1960 and 1966, 11 of which were conducted underground after the Evian Accords were signed in 1962, under which Algeria gained independence.
On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron asked for forgiveness, on behalf of his country, from the Algerian fighters, the Harkis, who fought for France during the Algerian war, announcing the adoption of a bill 'of recognition and reparation' soon.
