Tehran's principled position is to maintain diplomatic channels to prevent an escalation of tensions, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated, describing the E3's attempt to reimpose UN sanctions on Iran as lacking any legal or moral basis.
In a phone call he received from the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, along with the foreign ministers of Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, the Iranian FM explained that his country has taken a responsible step by engaging in talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency, explaining that the goal of these talks was to draft a new, clear document on how safeguards commitments will be implemented.
He urged the international community to acknowledge the importance of this responsible move, calling on all other parties to use this opportunity to recommit to diplomacy, prevent an entirely avoidable crisis, and prove they are genuinely serious about reaching a diplomatic solution.
Araghchi further emphasized that Tehran is ready to work toward a fair and balanced solution that protects the interests of all parties involved, asserting that achieving this demands a more responsible and independent approach from the E3 countries, one that resists pressure from outside actors who do not value diplomacy or adhere to international norms.
E3 continues to villainize Iran, forgetting about 'Israel', US
According to a statement from the German Foreign Ministry, the phone call between Kallas and the three European ministers and their Iranian counterpart was initiated to maintain diplomatic engagement, with the European side jointly alleging in their remarks that Iran has so far failed to take the reasonable and precise steps required by UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry's readout of the call reported that the discussion centered on issues surrounding Iran's nuclear program and the need to lift sanctions against the country.
Meanwhile, a French diplomatic source stated that the call between Araghchi and the E3 foreign ministers was arranged to discuss the imminent reinstatement of UN sanctions through the snapback mechanism.
The source added that the call served to reiterate the conditions the E3 had set for Tehran, conditions which could allow for such a measure to be postponed.
