Tehran, through its permanent representative to the United Nations, dismissed on Saturday the US accusations against Iran, describing them as "a desperate attempt to divert the UN Security Council from its responsibilities, conceal the truth, shield "Israel" from accountability, and maintain its impunity for its crimes."
In a letter to the Security Council, Amir Saeid Iravani addressed recent statements made by US and Israeli representatives during the Council's public session on Friday, titled "The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Issue," asserting that these claims are "without foundation."
Iran's letter stated that both the US and "Israel" sought to falsely accuse Iran of "involvement in destabilizing activities and support for terrorism," which Tehran viewed as a "systematic attempt to divert the international community's attention from the crimes of genocide, war crimes, and brutal violations committed by the Israeli entity against the Palestinian people in Gaza."
Tehran argued that these allegations were intended to "cover up the clear US complicity in these crimes and the absolute US support for the aggressive policies of the Israeli entity in the region."
In this context, Tehran reiterated its rejection of accusations made by the US representative during the Security Council’s previous public session two days prior, describing them as part of the same "malicious agenda."
Tehran emphasized that "the direct role of the United States in facilitating the crimes of the Israeli entity is proven and well-documented," highlighting that "Washington's unwavering political, military, and financial support has enabled this entity to continue its atrocities with complete impunity." Therefore, it asserted that these accusations against Iran were merely a desperate attempt to distract the Security Council from its duties, obscure the truth, and uphold "Israel"’s impunity.
Furthermore, Tehran stated that these allegations reflect "the United States' ongoing hostile policy against Iran" and serve as further proof that the US delegation to the United Nations, acting under direct orders from Washington, "continues to ignore the facts on the ground and uses every opportunity to repeat its baseless allegations against Iran." Additionally, Tehran asserted that "the United States has turned the Security Council into a tool to implement its political agenda, falsely portraying Iran as a threat to international peace and security."
Iran's nuclear program is peaceful, complies with the NNPT
In response to the US representative's allegations about Iran's nuclear program during the session, Tehran firmly stated in its letter that its nuclear activities are "entirely peaceful" and fully comply with its obligations under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
Iran also highlighted that the United States remains the only country in history to have used nuclear weapons.
Tehran criticized Washington’s "double standards and blatant hypocrisy," pointing to its complete silence on "Israel'’s" secret nuclear arsenal and its failure to address "Israel's" repeated threats to use weapons of mass destruction against Palestinians in Gaza.
Iran asserted that this stance demonstrates how "the issue of nuclear non-proliferation is not a neutral global principle for the United States, but rather a mere political tool that it uses according to its own interests."
