US President Donald Trump on Monday praised the adoption of a United Nations Security Council resolution backing the Gaza peace plan, calling the vote a “historic” achievement and confirming his role as head of the newly established Board of Peace for the Palestinian territory.
His comments come after the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution, backed by the United States, to authorize the creation of an International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in the Gaza Strip.
The resolution was approved by 13 of the 15 Council members, with Russia and China abstaining from the vote.
The resolution aims to deploy a temporary foreign force to oversee security, support reconstruction, and maintain order in the territory. The draft calls for the force to operate for an initial period of two years, with the possibility of extension depending on developments on the ground.
The resolution grants the force a broad mandate, including securing Gaza’s borders, protecting civilians, safeguarding humanitarian corridors, and training a newly vetted Palestinian police force. It also authorizes the use of “all necessary measures” to fulfill these objectives, including dismantling armed groups and seizing "unauthorized weapons".
Trump praises Security Council, confirms leadership role
"Congratulations to the World on the incredible Vote of the United Nations Security Council, just moments ago, acknowledging and endorsing the BOARD OF PEACE, which will be chaired by me, and include the most powerful and respected Leaders throughout the World " Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"This will go down as one of the biggest approvals in the History of the United Nations, will lead to further Peace all over the World, and is a moment of true Historic proportion!"
The US president reaffirmed that the Board of Peace would consist of globally respected leaders and would guide the Gaza peace process under his leadership.
Trump thanked all 15 Security Council members — including China, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, and Algeria — for their participation, as well as other nations that supported the effort, such as Qatar, Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkiye, and Jordan.
He added that formal announcements regarding the Board’s composition and next steps would be made in the coming weeks.
