Trump urges release of Epstein files citing 'nothing to hide'
US President Donald Trump has called on House Republicans to vote in favor of releasing the remaining Jeffrey Epstein files, denying any wrongdoing and calling the case a “Democrat hoax.”
US President Donald Trump on Monday urged congressional Republicans to approve the release of remaining files related to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, asserting that the Republican Party has “nothing to hide.”
"House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files, because we have nothing to hide, and it’s time to move on from this Democrat Hoax perpetrated by Radical Left Lunatics in order to deflect from the Great Success of the Republican Party," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump calls for transparency on Epstein files
The comments come as Congress prepares to vote on whether to release classified or unreleased portions of the Epstein files. According to reports, the vote may take place as early as Tuesday.
Trump’s public call for disclosure contrasts with earlier criticism he directed at Republican lawmakers who supported releasing the materials.
Massie claims Epstein files name 20 high-profile individuals
Republican Congressman Thomas Massie recently said that the unreleased portion of Epstein’s files may contain the names of at least 20 prominent figures who have not yet been investigated. He added that, in his opinion, Trump is unlikely to be implicated in the documents, but alleged that the Trump administration may be trying to protect major campaign donors.
Public interest in the Epstein case has been reignited amid accusations that the Trump administration has not fulfilled previous promises to declassify materials tied to the investigation.
House speaker backs vote to release Epstein files, denies Trump link
US House Speaker Mike Johnson said Sunday he supports a vote to release Justice Department files related to Jeffrey Epstein, arguing the move should silence allegations linking President Donald Trump to Epstein’s abuse and trafficking of underage girls.
“They're doing this to go after President Trump on this theory that he has something to do with it. He does not,” Johnson said in an interview on Fox News Sunday. “Epstein is their entire game plan, so we're going to take that weapon out of their hands. Let's just get this done and move it on. There's nothing to hide.”
Trump and Epstein were previously photographed together, but Trump has long said the two had a falling out before Epstein’s later criminal convictions. Trump has also directed the Department of Justice to investigate prominent Democrats’ ties to the disgraced financier.
