Trust in US court system hits record low of 35%: Poll
According to Gallup, the 24-point drop in confidence over four years is among the ten greatest globally since 2006.
Americans' faith in their country's legal system has hit an all-time low, a survey released Tuesday revealed.
Public trust in the courts and justice system has decreased to 35% this year, the Gallup poll found.
From 2006 to 2020, Americans' trust in the justice system was on par with the median levels of OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries like Canada, the UK, and France, according to the poll. However, since 2020, it has fallen sharply: 59% in 2020, 53% in 2021, 45% in 2022, 42% last year, and 35% this year.
According to Gallup, the 24-point drop in confidence over four years is among the ten largest globally since 2006.
According to an October study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania's Annenberg Public Policy Center, public trust in the United States Supreme Court has reached an all-time low.
The study found that 56% of Americans had some level of disapproval for the nation's top court. The research showed that faith in the judiciary decreased significantly following the court's 2022 overturn of Roe v. Wade.
According to a Gallup poll conducted in early October, Democrats' job approval and faith in the Supreme Court are declining significantly, with 82% thinking the court is "too conservative". On the other hand, 69% of Republicans believe the court's leanings are "about right".
The poll is extremely significant considering the recent pardon for Hunter Biden executed by his father President Joe Biden.
Early this month, Biden was heavily criticized for the pardon, and President-elect Donald Trump blasted the pardon as an "abuse and miscarriage of justice." Biden had stated several times that he would never pardon his own son for his offenses.
Hunter was convicted earlier this year of lying about his drug use when he bought a gun, which is a felony, and has also pleaded guilty in a separate tax evasion trial.
Johnson blasted Biden on X, writing how "trust in our justice system has been almost irreparably damaged by the Bidens and their use and abuse of it" and adding that real change "cannot begin soon enough."
