Tunisia, Algeria call for prosecution of 'Israel' over Gaza war
Tunisia and Algeria condemn the Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank and urge for the protection of Palestinians amid the ongoing genocide.
Tunisia and Algeria called for the acceleration of the legal prosecution of "Israel" due to its war on the Gaza Strip, necessitating its subjugation to respect international law, and urged the provision of protection and aid for the people of Palestine.
The joint statement came after a Friday meeting between Ibrahim Bouderbala, the speaker of the Tunisian Assembly of Representatives, and his Algerian counterpart, Ibrahim Boughali.
Both sides discussed the need to expedite the procedures to hold "Israel" criminally accountable, and to impose commitment to international humanitarian law and international legislation, particularly the resolutions of the UN Security Council, the UN General Assembly, and the International Court of Justice.
They also strongly condemned the ongoing brutal aggression and horrific crimes the Israeli occupation continues committing against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
Both countries also denounced the occupation's plots to "annex" the West Bank and occupied al-Quds, the violations against Palestinian detainees and abductees, the escalations of recurrent settler attacks, the expansion of settlements, and the violation of the sanctity of al-Aqsa Mosque.
In this context, the two sides emphasized the "legitimacy of the Palestinian people's struggle to resist the occupation, liberate their land, and restore all usurped rights, especially their right to establish an independent state with full sovereignty on their land and al-Quds as its capital."
They also called on "national parliaments and regional and international parliamentary councils to continue to move to support the Palestinian cause, work to stop the aggression, accelerate relief operations, and deliver aid to besieged Palestinian civilians."
This comes as the Israeli genocide in Gaza claimed the lives of almost 40,000 Palestinians, as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry.
However, some 45 physicians and nurses who volunteered in Gaza have written a letter addressed to the Biden administration, which arrived on Thursday, stating that "Israel" claimed the lives of over 90,000 Palestinians during its ongoing genocide in the Strip and highlighting the occupation's war crimes and violations of international humanitarian law.
"President Biden and Vice-President Harris, any solution to this problem must begin with an immediate and permanent ceasefire," the eight-page letter said, demanding the United States impose an arms embargo against the occupation regime, as well as withdraw its diplomatic, economic, and military support until a ceasefire is implemented.
