Turkish, Egyptian FMs to meet in Cairo, discuss Gaza
The foreign ministers of Egypt and Turkey hold talks are set to hold talks in Cairo ahead of a Strategic Cooperation Council meeting.
In a significant diplomatic development, top Turkish and Egyptian diplomats are set to meet in Cairo to prepare for the upcoming Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, which will be chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati confirmed the upcoming ministerial-level meeting, emphasizing its importance in laying the groundwork for the high-level council session later this year.
"There will be a ministerial-level meeting in Cairo this year to prepare for the upcoming Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, chaired by the presidents," Abdel Aati stated during a press conference alongside his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan.
A key focus of the meeting is the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Abdel Aati called for the swift implementation of early recovery projects in the region, urging immediate steps to provide clean water and medical care. "We need to ensure that Gaza remains livable," he said, stressing the urgency of humanitarian assistance.
The Egyptian foreign minister also highlighted the role of Turkish support in efforts related to Gaza's reconstruction. "We emphasized the importance of Turkish support for all efforts that will be made in the coming period regarding the reconstruction of Gaza," Abdel Aati noted, adding that Egypt plans to hold an international conference to gather global support for rebuilding the war-torn territory.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati said on Sunday that Cairo has a clear vision for the reconstruction of Gaza and an Arab consensus on the matter. He confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the United Nations to coordinate efforts in this framework.
"We have a clear vision for the reconstruction of Gaza and an Arab consensus on this matter, and we are engaging in discussions with the United Nations in this framework," the top diplomat said during a joint press conference with Djibouti's Foreign Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

Abdel Aati emphasized that the reconstruction process is part of a phased approach aimed at fostering a credible political process that would lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state. "This process represents a first phase, leading to the launch of a credible political process that would result in the establishment of a Palestinian state to prevent recurring cycles of violence and aggression," he stated. "This is the only way to achieve security and stability in the region."
