Turkish drone attack targets two PKK members in Iraqi Kurdistan
Two Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) fighters have been killed in Sinjar by a Turkish drone attack that targeted their car.
Two Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) fighters were killed, according to Iraqi Kurdish officials, following a Turkish drone strike that targeted Sinjar, in northern Iraq, on Wednesday.
"A Turkish military drone targeted a car carrying a security official and his bodyguard" in the town of Sinjar, killing both, the counter-terrorism services of Iraqi Kurdistan said in a statement.
Earlier, on Monday, three PKK members were assassinated in their car in the Sinjar area by a similar attack.
Kurdish militants suspend 'operations' after Turkey earthquake
Earlier last month, the PKK announced that they are temporarily suspending "operations" in Turkey after the massive earthquake that struck the country and Syria.
Monday's 7.8-magnitude earthquake, which claimed the lives of more than 45,000 in Turkey, struck a region that has witnessed some of the heaviest fighting between Turkish government forces and the PKK.
The group's co-leader Cemil Bayik told the PKK-linked ANF news agency that "thousands of our people are under the rubble" and urged a focus on recovery work rather than waging war.
"We call on all our forces engaged in military actions: stop the military actions in Turkey, in metropolises and cities," Bayik said in comments published on the site late Thursday.
"We have decided to not conduct any operation as long as the Turkish state does not attack," he added.
